What is a BOC-3?

​Did you know that ALL MC/FF/MX accounts filed with the FMCSA needs a BOC-3?

The most frequent question I receive is...WHAT IS A BOC-3?

The BOC-3 is a list of agents, all who have agreed to act as their State's receiving agent on your behalf.

In the event your company is involved in a lawsuit as a DEFENDANT these agents will receive documents on your behalf and then forward them on to you for further action.

This is one of the required forms to be filed electronically with the FMCSA for all interstate brokers, freight forwarders and carriers.

All filings received during normal business hours [9am - 4:30pm Monday thru Friday Mountain Time] are usually file within the hour.

Once we electronically file the BOC-3 with the FMCSA it shows on their system immediately. Then we create a BOC-3 form with your information and send you a pdf copy for your records.

We have been filing BOCs for 33 years.  The BOC will expires 6/30 annually.  

Why do we charge annual fees?  We maintain a list of 51 agents, some charge annual fees and some do not.  However, it is a huge task to keep this list accurate in case you're served in the future to keep you in compliance with the FMCSA.

WHEN DO YOU NEED TO REFILE A BOC-3?

• Reinstatement
• Transfer of Authority

In these cases a new BOC must be filed to activate or reactivate your authority. This cost is still the same - $50.

WHAT DOES BOC-3 STAND FOR?
It is an acronym of course! Government agencies have a language all their own using many acronyms. It simply stands for "Bureau of Compliance Form #3".
